Former Butler standout, Darren Gauson, begins his first season
as an Assistant Coach with the Bulldogs' program. Gauson will be
involved in several aspects of the track and field/cross country
program including coaching, recruiting, and meet management. A 2008
graduate of Butler's METL (Master's of Education and Teaching
Leadership) program, Gauson competed for the Bulldogs from
2006-2008. Gauson was a two-time NCAA MidEast Regional Qualifer in
the 1500 meters, reaching the finals in 2007. In 2008, he captured
the Horizon League title at 1500 meters. In cross country, Gauson
helped the 2006 squad to a 25th place finish at the NCAA
Championships. A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Gauson earned his
Bachelors of Science (honors) degree in Exercise Physiology from
Napier University in 2006. He is a two-time Scottish National
Champion at 1500 meters, winning back to back titles in 2004 and
2005. Gauson continues to train with Head Coach Matt Roe's elite
runners with hopes of representing Great Britain in the 2010
Commonwealth Games. He currently holds a 1500 best of 3:43.98

He will be a tremendous advocate for our program," said Butler head

2008 OUTDOOR: Horizon League champ in the 1,500 (3:55.51)...placed
18th in the 1,500 (3:54.85) at the NCAA Mideast Regional...finished
fifth in Section 3 of the 1,500 (3:54.17) at the Oregon
Relays...placed fourth in the 5,000 (15:08.15) at the Miami Team
Challenge...came in fifth in the 1,500 (3:57.59) at the Indiana
Invitational. 2008 INDOOR: Did not compete. 2007 OUTDOOR: Placed
3rd in the 800 (1:54.39) and fifth in the 1500 (3:55.87) at the
Horizon League Championship...came in 12th in the 1500 (3:52.69) at
the NCAA Mideast Regional...was third in his section of the 1500
(3:46.77) at the Stanford Invitational...placed 7th in the 5000
(15:27.55) at the Butler Twilight Meet. 2007 INDOOR: Finished
runner-up in the mile (4:18.89) and third in the 3000 (8:37.90) at
the Horizon League Championship...placed third in the 3000
(8:28.12) at the Hoosier Hills Meet.
