Mullett, Lisgo And McKillop Win At Notre Dame Opener
Butler’s track and field squad, back in action for the
first time since Dec. 11, came away with three individual titles
and a pair of runner-up finishes at the Notre Dame Opener on
Friday, Jan. 15. The Bulldogs were among five teams competing
in the non-scoring meet at Notre Dame’s Loftus Sports
Center.
Highlighting Butler’s performance were first place finishes
from Rob Mullett in the men’s 800, Stephen Lisgo in the
men’s mile and Lauren McKillop in the women’s
mile. Mullett paced a 17-runner field with a winning time of
1:52.23, while Lisgo won the mile in 4:12.32. McKillop
captured the women’s mile in 4:56.50, finishing ahead of
runner-up Marissa Treece of Notre Dame (4:58.04), unattached
competitor Pam Staton (5:03.40) and teammate Shelbi Burnette
(5:08.06).
The Bulldogs also picked up second place finishes from Marbeth
Shiell in the women’s 3,000 and Brent Sever in the
men’s 60 hurdles. Shiell crossed the finish line in
10:10.74, narrowly beating teammate Sara Bird in third place with a
time of 10:11.03. Sever finished in a dead heat with Justin
Schneider of Notre Dame, both posting a finishing time of 8.77, but
Schneider was awarded first place.
Sprinter Romeo Harper turned in two strong races for the Bulldogs,
placing third in both the men’s 60 (7.18) and the men’s
200 (22.97), while Matt Lawder captured a fourth place finish in
the men’s 3,000 (8:57.65). Kirsty Legg came in fifth in
the women’s 800 in 2:19.72, while teammate Kaitlyn Love
crossed the line less than a second later in sixth place.
The Bulldogs will be in action again on Jan. 22-23, at the
Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
