Rob Mullett, Lauren McKillop Earn Horizon League Recognition
Butler middle distance standouts Rob Mullett and Lauren McKillop
have been honored by the Horizon League for their efforts at the
Notre Dame Opener indoor track meet on Friday, Jan. 15.
Mullett was named league Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week,
while McKillop was selected as the Female Indoor Track Athlete of
the Week.
Mullett, a native of Brighton, U.K., won the men’s 800 meter
run in the five-team meet at Notre Dame’s Loftus Sports
Center. He crossed the finish line in 1:52.23, more than a
full second ahead of runner-up Jeremy Rae of host Notre Dame.
A total of 17 runners were entered in the men’s 800. It
was the second time this season that Mullett earned the
league’s weekly award.
McKillop, a freshman from Matraville, Australia, won the
women’s mile run in 4:56.50, out-pacing Marissa Treece of
Notre Dame (4:58.04), unattached competitor Pam Staton (5:03.40)
and teammate Shelbi Burnett (5:08.06). There were 14 runners
entered in the women’s mile run.
Butler’s track and field team will be back in action at the
Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University, on Friday and
Saturday, Jan. 22-23.
