Rob Mullett Named League Track Athlete of the Week
Senior Rob Mullett, who became the first
athlete in Butler track history to record a sub-four minute mile,
has been named Horizon League Male Track Athlete of the Week for
the period of February 8-14.
The Brighton, U.K., native placed ninth in an elite field in the
mile run at the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of
Washington in Seattle, on Feb. 13. He crossed the finish line
in 3:59.37 to capture the historical Butler first!
Mullett’s time broke the previous Butler indoor mile record
of 4:00.53, set by All-American Scott Overall in 2006. The
sub-four minute mile also topped the qualifying standard for the
NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Butler’s track and field squad will compete at the Eastern
Illinois Friday Night Special in Charleston, Ill., on Feb. 19, as a
final tune-up to the Horizon League Championship, Feb. 27-28.
