Bulldogs Have Strong Middle Distance Showing At EIU
CHARLESTON, ILL. -- Butler’s final outing prior to the
2010 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship, Feb.
27-28, produced several solid performances, particularly in the
middle distance events. Team scores weren’t kept at the
Eastern Illinois Friday Night Special, but the meet proved to be a
solid tune-up for Butler’s individual runners.
Seniors Marbeth Shiell and Stephen Lisgo had Butler’s highest
individual finishes at the meet. Shiell placed runner-up in
the women’s 800 meter run in 2:18.88. She missed the
top spot by 0.51 seconds! Lisgo finished second in the
men’s 800 meter run in 1:56.56, just 0.16 behind first place
Drake Sterling, running unattached.
Sophomore Lauren Haberkorn placed third in the women’s 3,000
in a personal best time of 10:25.68. It was the fourth time
in as many races this season that she’s recorded a lifetime
best!
Butler also picked up third place finishes from senior Sara Bird in
the women’s mile (5:08.88) and senior Tom Boardman in the
men’s mile (4:18.80). Junior Rosie Edwards came in
fourth in the women’s mile (5:10.47), while senior Justin
Roeder was seventh in the men’s mile (4:21.68).
Freshman Kaitlyn Love placed third in the women’s 600 meter
run in 1:37.83, just over a second off the Butler record (1:36.48,
Rholonda Ash, 2004). Love is ranked second in the Horizon
League in the 800, behind teammate Kirsty Legg.
