Distance Crew Fuels Butler At Miami Invite
OXFORD, OHIO -- Strong performances in the middle distance and
distance events, including a near sweep in the men’s 1500
meter run, highlighted Butler’s effort at the Miami
Invitational on Saturday (April 10). Butler’s men place
sixth in the 14-team competition, while Butler’s women came
in seventh.
The Bulldogs’ most dominant performance came in the
men’s 1500. Senior Joe Macdonald won the event in
3:44.76, while teammate Kris Gauson finished runner-up in
3:45.67. Senior Rob Mullett came in third in 3:46.29 and
senior Stephen Lisgo was sixth in 3:54.37. Butler assistant
coach Darren Gauson (3:48.13) and former Butler runner Andrew
Sherman (3:51.05), both running unattached, claimed fourth and
fifth in the race, respectively.
Butler also picked up a third place finish in the men’s
5,000 meter run from senior Justin Roeder (14:46.71), while junior
Brent Seven placed fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (15.46).
Freshman Romeo Harper placed sixth in the 100 meter dash (11.14)
and 11th in the 200 meter dash (22.95).
Freshman Kirsty Legg paced Butler’s women with a runner-up
finish in the 800 meter run in 2:12.97. Freshman Kaitlyn Love
came in fourth in the race in 2:16.92, while freshman Shelbi
Burnett was sixth in 2:17.97.
Burnett also placed fourth in the 1500 meter run in 4:34.37,
trailing teammate Katie Clark (4:32.60) in third place.
Freshman Lauren McKillop was seventh in the 1500 in 4:38.75.
The Bulldogs also had three of the top nine finishers in the 5,000
meter run, led by junior Rosie Edwards in sixth place
(17:41.89). Senior Marbeth Shiell came in eighth (17:53.86),
while senior Sara Bird was ninth (18:03.51).
Freshman Nicole Humphrey posted a fifth place finish in the
women’s 3,000 meter steeeplechase in 11:35.30.
