Rob Mullett, Kirsty Legg Win At Stan Lyons Invitational
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Senior Rob Mullett and freshman Kirsty
Legg put on dominant 1500 meter performances to lead Butler’s
track and field squad at the Stan Lyons Invitational, held at
Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Saturday (April 24). The
non-scoring meet attracted athletes from more than 15 schools and
several club teams.
Mullett put on one of the evening’s best performances in
winning the men’s 1500 meter run by nearly nine
seconds! He crossed the finish line in 3:42.21, well ahead of
runner-up Chris Fallon of Ohio State (3:51.06).
Mullett’s time narrowly missed the school record of 3:42.13
set by teammate Kris Gauson a year ago. Senior Stephen Lisgo
finished eighth in the men’s 1500 in 3:54.46.
Legg finished nearly five seconds ahead of Katie Williams of Ohio
State to win the women’s 1500. The first-year Butler
runner posted a winning time of 4:27.89, while Williams finished in
4:32.06. Butler’s Marbeth Shiell came in sixth in the
women’s 1500 (4:39.97), while teammate Sara Bird was seventh
(4:43.38).
Gauson also turned in a strong finish for the Bulldogs, placing
second in the men’s 800 in 1:50.47. He was the top
collegian in the race, coming in just over a second behind James
O’Brien of the Indiana Invaders.
Freshman Kaitlyn Love turned in a lifetime best performance and
finished as the top collegian in the women’s 800. She
placed third overall in 2:13.88. Teammate Katie Clark came in
seventh in the race in 2:16.88.
Other top finishes by Butler runners were turned in by junior Brent
Sever, who was third in the men’s 110 meter hurdles (15.66),
freshman Kevin Oblinger, who placed third in the men’s
steeplechase (9:44.11) and freshman Nicole Humphrey, who came in
fourth in the women’s steeplechase (11:35.14). Freshman
Catherine Watkins came in sixth in the women’s shot put
(33-10).
