Butler Closes Track Season In North Carolina
Despite several solid individual performances, Butler’s
outdoor track and field season came to an end at the East
Preliminary Round of the 2010 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and
Field Championship hosted by North Carolina A & T in
Greensboro, May 27-29.
Two of Butler’s top efforts were turned in by seniors Rob
Mullett and Kris Gauson. Mullett placed fourth in the first
heat and 16th overall in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase
with a time of 8:51.82. The top three individuals in his heat
advanced to the national meet in Eugene, Ore.
Gauson was sixth in the second heat of the men’s 1500 meter
run. The top five individuals in his heat qualified for the
national championship. Gauson posted a time of 3:51.66, while
fifth-place finisher Johnathan Shawer of Notre Dame advanced with a
time of 3:51.55.
Freshman Kirsty Legg was ninth in the third heat of the
women’s 1500 in 4:30.62. The top seven individuals in
her heat advanced to the national meet.
Senior Stephen Lisgo, a returning All-American, placed 35th in the
steeplechase in 9:12.51, while senior Joe Macdonald was 33rd in the
men’s 5,000 in 14:39.46. Junior Madison Roeder came in
29th in the men’s 10,000 in 33:10.86, and freshman Lauren
McKillop was 30th in the women’s 5,000 in 17:09.90.
Senior Justin Roeder did not finish the men’s 10,000, and
freshman Katie Clark was scratched from the women’s 5,000.
