INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Just days after earning a berth in the
2011 NCAA Outdoor Track And Field National Championship,
Butler’s Kris Gauson has been named to the Capital One
Academic All-District V University Division Men’s Track &
Field/Cross Country Team, chosen by College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA). He was one of 10 athletes
honored on the District V first team.
Gauson, a graduate student majoring in Education, has been a top performer on Butler’s track and cross country squads. He was named the Most Outstanding Performer for Running Events at the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championship and was selected as the 2011 Horizon League Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He won league indoor championships in the 800 and the mile and captured the league’s outdoor 1500 meter title with a conference record time of 3:48.00. The Butler standout owns school records in the outdoor 800, the outdoor 1500 and the indoor 800.
The Edinburgh, Scotland, native also won the individual title at the 2010 Horizon League Cross Country Championship. He’s earned first team All-League honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, and he’s been named Academic All-League in all three sports.
Gauson qualified for this year's NCAA Outdoor Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, with a third place finish in the men's 1500 meter run at the NCAA East Preliminary Round. He'll compete at the national meet at Drake Stadium, June 8-11.
The 10 athletes from District V, which represents Division I schools from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba, will be considered along with All-Academic picks from seven other districts for selection to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Team, which will be released later in June.
