Stephen Lisgo Places Fifth At European Championships
Butler track and field All-American Stephen
Lisgo added to an already impressive resume by placing
fifth in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase at the European
Athletics U23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania, on Sunday, July
19. The Butler junior was competing as a member of the Great
Britain and Northern Ireland team.
Lisgo placed runner-up in the second semifinal of the steeplechase
with a time of 8:59.45, and he entered the finals ranked ninth
overall. He then raced to a fifth place finish in the finals
with a time of 8:45.77, five seconds behind individual champ
Aleksandr Pavelyev of Russia.
The 2009 Horizon League steeplechase champion, Lisgo earned
All-America honors by placing third in the steeplechase at the 2009
NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship. His
national meet finish was the best by a male Butler athlete in
nearly seven decades.
Lisgo, a Mansfield, U.K., native, earned a spot on the UK Athletics
team for the European Championships by winning Great
Britain’s AAA U23 Steeplechase title in late June.
