Bulldogs Turn In Strong Early Season Performance
Seniors Kris Gauson and Rob Mullett and freshmen Kirsty Legg and
Lauren McKillop each picked up individual wins to highlight the
performance of Butler’s track and field squad at the Eastern
Illinois Early Bird Meet on Friday, Dec. 11. The meet was
Butler’s first competition of the indoor track and field
season.
Gauson, a returning All-American, won the men’s 800 meter
run in 1:53.72, narrowly edging Mullett (1:54.33). Butler
freshman Craig Jordan placed fourth in the event in 1:58.52, while
senior Joe Macdonald finished sixth in 1:58.69.
Mullett came back to win the men’s mile run in 4:09.78,
while Macdonald finished third in the event in 4:15.40.
Legg won the women’s 1,000 meter run in 2:56.39, while
freshman Kaitlyn Love placed sixth in the event (3:05.81).
McKillop won the women’s 3,000 meter run in 10:00.90,
leading Butler to a sweep of the top four places. Senior Sara
Bird finished runner-up in 10:25.72, sophomore Lauren Haberkorn was
third in 10:44.65 and junior Rosie Edward came in fourth in
10:44.69.
Two additional Bulldogs picked up runner-up finishes in the
multi-team meet. Freshman Katie Clark finished second in the
women’s mile run in 5:00.42, while junior Madison Roeder came
in second in the men’s 3,000 meter run in 8:37.09.
Senior Tom Boardman was fourth in the men’s 3,000 (8:41.06),
while senior Stephen Lisgo finished sixth (8:50.46).
Butler’s men placed fifth of six team with 52 points, while
Butler’s women were fifth of five teams with 56 points.
Indiana State placed first in both the men’s and
women’s competitions.
