Butler head coach Matt Roe entered only a partial squad in the Indiana Relays, but the Bulldogs still turned in several solid performances in the two-day meet hosted by Indiana University. Eight different Butler runners claimed a "Top 6" individual finish in the multi-team meet, and one posted a school record!
Junior Brent Sever turned in the best time of his Butler career and broke a school record with a sixth place finish in 8.57 in the men's 60 meter hurdles. He topped the existing Butler record of 8.64 that he shared with Trent Elliott (2002). Sever previously had tied the school mark in 2008.
Five additional Butler runners, led by senior Tom Boardman and freshman Kirsty Legg, had "Top 6" efforts in invitational races. Boardman placed fifth in the men's 3,000 meter invitational in a lifetime best time of 8:18.27. It's the top recorded time in the Horizon League this season.
Legg placed second in her section and sixth overall in the women's 800 meter invitational in 2:12.67. Her time is the fastest in the league this year.
Other top Butler performances were recorded by seniors Marbeth Shiell and Justin Roeder, and junior Rosie Edwards. Shiell finished sixth in the women's 3,000 meter invitational in 10:03.90, Roeder was sixth in the men's 5,000 meter invitational in 15:46.99 and Edwards placed sixth in the women's 5,000 meter invitational in 18:07.22.
Butler also had two of the top four finishers in the women's 800 meter run. Freshmen Kaitlyn Love (2:18.14) and Shelbi Burnett (2:18.54) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the event.
