Bulldogs Begin 2011 At Illini Open
CHAMPAIGN, ILL. -- Butler’s track and field squad,
returning from Christmas break, resumed the indoor season at the
Illini Open, hosted by the University of Illinois on Saturday, Jan.
15. The Bulldogs entered a partial squad in the non-scoring
meet.
Freshman Nigel Spears, who placed third in the men’s long
jump, had Butler’s highest individual finish in the
meet. He posted a jump of 21-04.75 to claim the top three
finish.
Butler also picked up a fourth-place finish from freshman Tom
Brueggeman in the men’s 200. The Butler sprinter
finished in 22.76. Senior Brent Sever came in eighth in the
same race in 24.41. Brueggeman came in ninth in the
men’s 60 in 7.17.
Freshman Andrew Wallace came in sixth in the men’s 800 in
2:03.75 and freshman Matthew Schumacker placed seventh in the
men’s 400 in 53.89.
In the women’s competition, sophomore Catherine Watkins
placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 31-02.
