Kirsty Legg, Kris Gauson Earn Horizon League Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler runners Kirsty Legg and Kris Gauson have been named Horizon League Track and Field Runners of the Week for the week beginning Jan. 17.  Legg was selected as the league’s Female Runner of the Week, while Gauson was chosen as the Male Runner of the Week.

Legg broke the Butler indoor 3,000 meter record while competing at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University.  She placed third of 12 competitors with a time of 9:30.07, break the previous school mark of 9:30.67 set by All-American Victoria Mitchell in 2005.

The Butler sophomore owns the top 3,000 meter time in the Horizon League this season.  Her effort shaved 10 seconds off her winning time at the EIU Early Bird in December.

Gauson posted the top 800 meter time in the Horizon League this season with a winning effort of 1:52.56 in the men’s 800 Invitational at the Gladstein Invitational.  He finished nearly two seconds ahead of the runner-up in the race.

Gauson now owns the top times in the Horizon League in the 800 and the 3,000 with a month remaining until the Horizon League Indoor Championships.

Butler will return to action at the Indiana Relay, Jan. 28-29, in Bloomington.
