Middle Distance Runners Lead Butler At League Meet
Horizon League Championship Second Day Results
INDIANAPOLIS IND. -- Kris Gauson and Kaitlyn Love turned in top
qualifying times and Craig Jordan picked up an
individual win to pace Butler’s track and field squad on the
second day of the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field
Championship at Michael A. Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis.
The league meet concludes with all final events on Sunday, May
7.
Gauson turned in the top qualifying time in the men’s 800,
while winning the first preliminary heat in 1:53.39.
He’ll be the top seed in Sunday’s finals. Love
paced the women’s 800 field with a qualifying time of
2:14.78, just 0:00.04 ahead of teammate and defending 800 champion
Kirsty Legg.
Jordan picked up Butler’s lone win on the day, capturing the
individual title in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase.
The second-year runner led the field with a winning time of
9:19.13, while teammate Matt Proctor came in third in 9:22.82.
Shelbi Burnett placed runner-up in the women’s 3000 meter
steeplechase in 11:03.97, while Nicole Humphrey came in sixth in
the event in 11:45.96.
Tom Brueggemann advanced to Sunday’s finals in both the 100
and the 200. He posted a qualifying time of 10.97 in the 100
and then advanced in the 200 with a time of 21.98. Alex Barry
qualified in the men’s 400 with a time of 49.01.
Lindsey Corbitt advanced to the finals in the women’s 400
hurdles with a qualifying time of 1:08.46.
Butler’s men are in third place heading into the final day
of competition, while the Butler women are fifth.
