Rob Mullett Places Seventh In Minnesota Mile

DULUTH, MINN. -- Butler All-American Rob Mullett placed among the top runners in an elite field at the Grandma’s Minnesota Mile in Duluth, Minn., on Sunday (Sept. 19).  The former Butler standout finished seventh in the event’s top race.

Mullett finished the one-mile road race in 4:03.98, just two seconds behind Phillip Lagat of Kenya.  Aron Rono of Kenya won the race in a record time of 3:58.18, while former Stanford star Garrett Heath finished second in 3:58.48.  Felix Kiboiywo of Kenya was third (3:59.33), Kevin Chelimo of Kenya was fourth (3:59.63) and Will Leer of the U.S. was fifth (4:00.13).

Four different men’s and women’s mile races were held at the event and a record 532 runners were entered, including the largest elite field in race history.

Mullett, who became the first runner in Butler history to record a sub-four-minute mile, finished his career with the Bulldogs last spring.  He earned All-America honors with a seventh place finish in the mile at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championship, and he later was named 2010 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
