Gauson, Legg Wrap Up Track Season At NCAA Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa - Senior Kris Gauson and sophomore Kirsty Legg finished their standout outdoor track seasons at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships Thursday night at Drake Stadium. Both athletes competed in the 1500 meter run, with Legg placing 17th in the women's run to highlight the night. Gauson did not finish in the men's 1500.
Gauson, who was one of the nation's top 1500 meter runners this season after posting a time of 3:40.59 at the Mt. SAC Relays in April, came down with food poisoning and was one of three athletes to not register a time.
Legg, in the women's first heat running in lane 4, clocked 4:23.81 for 17th among the nation's top 24 runners. She finished a fraction of a second behind Minnesota's Nikki Swenson.
The 12 fastest times qualfied for Saturday's 1500 meter final. Dorian Ulrey of Arkansas was the top men's qualifier and Virginia's Morgane Gay was Thursday's fastest female qualifier.
