Former Butler Athletes Head To The Summer Olympics
Butler fans will have an added incentive to follow the 2012 Summer Olympics, which begin in London, England, July 27. Among the competitors in the marathon at this summer’s Games will be two former Butler track and field standouts, Scott Overall and Ava Hutchinson.

Olympic Bid Ends In Oregon
A bid to make the United States Olympic Team this summer ended on Friday (June 29) for Butler assistant track and cross country coach Mason Cathey. The Butler coach placed 11th in the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase at the U. S. Olympic Trials being held in Eugene, Oregon.

Nine Butler Athletes Earn Academic All-League Honors
Nine Butler student-athletes have been named to the 2012 Horizon League Spring Academic All-League Teams, released by the league office on Wednesday (June 27). The nine athletes represent six different Butler teams.

Butler assistant track and cross country coach Mason Cathey cleared the first hurdle in her bid for a spot on the U. S. Olympic Team. The Butler coach successfully advanced to the finals of the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, which will be held on Friday (June 29) in Eugene, Oregon.

Kirsty Legg Lowers School Record
Junior Kirsty Legg continued a strong summer running performance and broke her own school record in the 1500 meter run at the American Milers Club Series, held at Michael Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, June 9. Shelbi Burnett Named Academic All-District
Sophomore Shelbi Burnett, who had a break-out season on Butler’s cross country squad and a successful campaign with the Bulldogs’ track and field team, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V University Division Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team, chosen by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Butler distance standout was one of 16 student-athletes selected second team on the district honor squad.

Curr Places Tenth At NCAA Preliminary Round
Freshman Tom Curr closed out a strong initial season at Butler with a tenth place finish in the men’s 1500 meter run at the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. Competition at North Florida’s Hodges Stadium wrapped up on Saturday, May 26.

Junior Kirsty Legg and freshman Tom Curr turned in strong first-day performances at the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., and the two Butler runners each advanced to the meet’s quarterfinals. The Butler duo will compete again on Saturday, May 26, with a trip to the NCAA Track and Field Championship on the line.

Butler Lands Three In NCAA Preliminary Round
Junior Kirsty Legg, sophomore Craig Jordan and freshman Tom Curr will represent Butler University at the preliminary round of the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, being held in Jacksonville, Fla., May 24-26. The list of qualifiers for the national meet was released by the NCAA on Thursday, May 17.

Six Bulldogs Compete At Grand Valley Meet

Butler picked up a pair of individual titles and broke a pair of school records, while battling the weather and the rest of the league at the 2012 Horizon League Track and Field Championship which ended on Sunday, May 6. Clark, Love Named Academic All-League
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler distance runners Katie Clark and Kaitlyn Love have been named to the 2011-12 Horizon League Women’s Indoor Track and Field Academic All-League Team, released by the league office on Tuesday, April 24. The two were among 16 female track and field athletes chosen to the winter academic honor squad.

She’s the first member of the women’s team at Butler to earn the league honor during the 2012 outdoor season.

Butler swept the men’s and women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase titles and captured two other individual crowns in a strong distance performance at the Pacesetter Invitational, which wrapped up on Saturday, April 14, at Indiana State.
