Butler’s Tom Curr Earns League Track Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Freshmen Tom Curr ran his first indoor mile and earned his second Horizon League track and field honor.  Curr was one of two athletes named Horizon League Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

The first-year runner from Stroud, England, placed runner-up in the famed Meyo Mile at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.  Competing in the event for the first time, he posted a 4:00.73 mile and trailed only Notre Dame’s Jeremy Rae across the finish line.  Curr’s time is currently the 14th fastest in the nation.

Earlier this season, Curr earned Horizon League Track Athlete of the Week honors after breaking Butler’s 1000 meter record at the Hoosier Open.

Also honored by the Horizon League was Youngstown State’s Bobby Grace, who won the shot put at the YSU Invitational.

Butler also had a couple of the top female performances in the Horizon League during the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5.  Junior Kirsty Legg placed fourth in the Meyo Mile with a time of 4:41.70, while freshman Nicole Hudec broke her own school record in the triple jump with a leap of 36-08.50.
