Shelbi Burnett Earns Horizon League Track Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior Shelbi Burnett, who won the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Pacesetter Invitational, has been named Horizon League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the period April 9-15.  She’s the first member of the women’s team at Butler to earn the league honor during the 2012 outdoor season.

Burnett was one of four Butler athlete who won individual titles at the Pacesetter Invitational, hosted by Indiana State.  She captured the steeplechase title in 10:47.92, which ranks her in the “Top 100” in the nation currently.  Burnett also was Butler’s top finisher in the women’s 1500 meter run, placing third overall in 4:40.79.

Butler’s track and field squads will be in action at the Mt. Sac Relays (Walnut, Calif.) and the Polytan Invitational (Bloomington, Ind.) this weekend.
