Kris Gauson Wins National Title
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND -- Former Butler track and cross country
standout Kris Gauson has added to his impressive resume by winning
the 800 meter run at the Scottish National Championships on Sunday,
July 17. The national event was held at Scotstoun Stadium in
Glasgow, Scotland.
Gauson, who owns Butler records in both the 800 and 1500 meter
runs, placed first in both the quarterfinals and the semifinals at
the national championship. He then captured the finals in
1:51.73. Craig Stewart was runner-up in 1:51.39, while
Christopher Smith finished third in 1:51.71.
Earlier this month, Gauson was named 2011 Horizon League Outdoor
Track and Field Athlete of the Year. He was selected as the
Most Outstanding Runner at the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track
and Field Championship, after setting a league record (3:48.00)
while winning the 1500 meter run. He went on to earn
honorable mention All-America recognition.
Gauson will continue his summer running schedule on the final
weekend of July at the U.K. World Trials in Birmingham,
England. The former Butler star will be competing in the 1500
meter run at the World Trials.
