Gauson Named To World University Team
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Just days after capturing a national title
in Glasgow, Scotland, former Butler runner Kris Gauson was notified
that he had been selected to Great Britain’s track and field
team for this summer’s World University Games. This
year’s competition will be held in Shenzhen, China, August
12-23.
Gauson’s selection was based on his performance this
year. The outstanding middle distance runner set a
Butler 1500 meter record (3:40.59) during the spring season, and
went on to be named 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field
Athlete of the Year. He was selected as the Most Outstanding
Runner at the 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field
Championship, after setting a league record (3:48.00) while winning
the 1500 meter run.
Gauson, who won the 800 meter title at the Scottish National
Championships, will continue his summer running schedule on the
final weekend of July at the U.K. World Trials in Birmingham,
England.
A 2011 honorable mention All-American, Gauson won’t be the
lone Butler representative at the World University Games in
China. Butler men’s basketball coach Brad Stevens will
be serving as an assistant coach for the USA Men’s Basketball
Team at the China games.
