Butler Track Athletes Honored

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Junior Kirsty Legg and freshman Nicole Hudec, who accounted for three Butler track and field records at the Notre Dame Blue and Gold Meet, have been named Horizon League Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week.  Legg was named league Runner of the Week, while Hudec claimed league Field Athlete of the Week recognition.

Legg, competing in the first indoor meet of the season, broke her own school record while winning the women’s 3,000 meter run.  She crossed the finish line in 9:19.60, topping the school mark of 9:30.07 that she set a year ago.  Teammate Katie Clark also bettered the previous Butler record while finishing runner-up in the 3000 in 9:27.09 at the Blue and Gold Meet.

Hudec, making her collegiate debut, set Butler records in both the long jump and the triple jump.  She placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 36-1 and fourth in the long jump with a 17-5 effort.  Butler’s previous triple jump record was 34-05.5, set by Jen Conner in 1998, while the Bulldogs’ long jump mark of 16-10.75 was shared by Lauren Karch (2000) and Kristi Hertzler (2006).

Butler’s track and field squad will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 9, at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington.
