Three Bulldogs Earn League Track Honor
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Freshmen Tom Curr and Nicole Hudec and
sophomore Nigel Spears turned in top performances at the Hoosier
Open and the three have been named Horizon League Track and Field
Athletes of the Week. Curr was chosen Men’s Runner of
the Week, Hudec claimed Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
recognition and Spears was named Men’s Field Athlete of the
Week.
Curr, competing in the first indoor meet of the season, broke
Butler’s 1000 meter record with a time of 2:24.35. He
topped the previous Butler mark of 2:24.79, set by Olympian Scott
Overall in 2006. Curr placed third in the event behind former
Butler standout Kris Gauson (2:21.03) and Indiana All-American
De’Sean Turner (2:22.45).
Hudec, who won Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week honors for
the second consecutive week, continued her record-setting pace with
a pair of school marks at the Hoosier Open. She broke her own
school record in the triple jump with a leap of 36-07.50, breaking
the mark of 36-01 that she set one week earlier. She also set
a school mark in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.41, breaking
the record of 7.94 set by Jenn Sewall in 2001.
Spears placed runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 22-09.24
and fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 40-00.75 at the
Hoosier Open. He was competing in the triple jump for the
first time this season.
Butler’s track and field squad will take a break for the
holidays before returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the
Illini Open in Champaign, Ill.
