Bulldogs Fine Tune At EIU Friday Night Special
CHARLESTON, ILL. -- Butler had its final tune-up for the 2012 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships and the Bulldogs responded with one new school record and several "Top Five" individual finishes at the EIU Friday Night Special at Eastern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 17.
Freshman Kelly Davidson picked up the school record with a time of 7.60 in the women's 55 meter dash. Davidson, who placed 14th in the event, topped the previous Butler mark of 7.74, shared by Tayell Thomas (1998), Kim Rinehart (1996) and Bridgette Davis (1992).
Butler was particularly strong in the middle distance and distance events at the non-scoring meet. The Bulldogs had individual runner-up finishes in the women's 800, the women's mile and the men's 5,000.
Freshman Mara Olson came in second in the women's 800 in 2:12.71, while teammate Kaitlyn Love finished third in the event in 2:16.93. Junior Lauren McKillop finished runner-up in the women's mile in 5:05.53, while senior Becky Howarth was fifth in 5:09.82. Senior Lauren Haberkorn was eighth in the race in 5:17.41.
Freshman Chelsea Stephan came in third in the women's 3,000 in 10:26.88, while freshman Nicole Hudec came in third in the women's long jump with a leap of 35-08. Hudec also placed sixth in the women's long jump (17-03).
Freshman David Ford turned in the highest finish on the men's side with a second place finish in the 5,000 meter run. He completed the race in 15:20.24. Senior Madison Roeder came in fifth in 15:30.29.
Sophomore James Martin had a fourth place finish in the men's mile in 4:19.38. The Bulldogs also picked up fifth place finishes from sophomore Alex Berry in the men's 600 (1:23.53), junior Kevin Oblinger in the men's 3,000 (8:44.87) and sophomore Nigel Spears in the long jump (21-08.25).
The Bulldogs' next action will be at the Horizon League Indoor Championship. The conference meet will be held at Youngstown State on Feb. 25-26.
