Legg, Curr Advance At NCAA Meet

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Junior Kirsty Legg and freshman Tom Curr turned in strong first-day performances at the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla., and the two Butler runners each advanced to the meet's quarterfinals.  The Butler duo will compete again on Saturday, May 26, with a trip to the NCAA Track and Field Championship on the line.

Legg placed eighth in the third and fastest heat of the women's 1500 meter run.  Her time of 4:24.94 ranked 19th overall among the 24 runners who advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals.

Curr came in third in the fourth and fastest heat of the men's 1500 meter run.  He covered the distance in 3:46.14, the third-fastest time of the 24 qualifiers.  Indiana's Andrew Bayer won the fourth heat and posted the fastest qualifying time of 3:45.53, while Ryan Hill of North Carolina State came in the second in the final heat in 3:45.56.

The men's 1500 meter quarterfinals will be held at Hodges Stadium at 6:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, while the women's 1500 quarterfinals will follow at 6:45 p.m.  The top five finishers from each of two heats, plus the next two fastest times advance to the national semifinals at Drake University, June 6-9.

Sophomore Craig Jordan, Butler's third competitor at the East Preliminary Round, will compete in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase on Friday, May 25, at 8:50 p.m.
