Curr Places Tenth At NCAA Preliminary Round

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Freshman Tom Curr closed out a strong initial season at Butler with a tenth place finish in the men's 1500 meter run at the NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla.  Competition at North Florida's Hodges Stadium wrapped up on Saturday, May 26.

Curr, who was the third-fastest qualifier in the East Preliminary quarterfinal round, finished the 1500 in 3:48.24, while running in the fastest of the two quarterfinal heats.  The top seven finishers in Curr's heat, along with the top five finishers in the second heat, advanced to the NCAA semifinals at Drake University.

The first-year runner was one of three Butler athletes competing at the East Preliminary Round.  Junior Kirsty Legg advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's 1500, but saw her season end there with an 18th place finish in 4:26.23.  She came in ninth in the second heat of of the race.

Butler's final competitor, sophomore Craig Jordan, wound up placing 16th in the third heat of the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase.  His time of 9:44.14 left him in 47th place overall.  

The NCAA East Preliminary Round was Butler's final 2011-12 athletic competition.
