Interview: Mason Cathey's Run At The Pan Am Games

Butler assistant track coach Mason Cathey represented the Bulldogs and our nation on the national stage this fall.

Cathey, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., assists head coach Matt Roe and works out every day with the Bulldogs. Her time of 10:19.10 in the 3000-meter steeplechase placed fourth at the Pan Am Game in Guadalajara, Mexico, earlier this fall. Her USA teammate, Sara Hall, brought home the gold in the event.

“I went out and followed my plan, but with the altitude you don’t know what to expect so you don’t want to go out too fast because it might hit you. You kind of feel like you’re being a bit hesitant, but it was a good race — awesome experience, great crowd. I just wanted to do well in Mexico and beat a couple of people and represent the U.S. well.”
