INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler nearly swept the running events in its 2012-13 indoor track season-opener at the University of Indianapolis Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1.  It was the first indoor track meet in the new Athletics and Recreation Center at Indianapolis.

The Bulldogs placed first in 12 of 20 individual running events and won both team relay events.  Eleven different Butler runners picked up a first place finish (13 counting a virtual three-way tie for first in the women's 60 meter dash), and Butler swept the top two places in seven different individual races.

Mick Wang led the way for Butler's men with victories in the 60 meter hurdles (8:56) and the 200 meter hurdles (26.35).  Other winners for Butler's men were Alex Berry in the 600 meter run (1:22.83), Luke Zygmunt in the 800 meter run (1:59.43), Kodi Mullins in the mile run (4:23.5) and Craig Jordan in the 3,000 meter run (8:47.01).  Berry's time in the 600 missed Butler's school record by 0:00.73.

In the women's competition, Butler picked up wins from Kiley Shelley in the 60 meter hurdles (9.58), Allison Fisher in the 400 meter run (1:03.58), Samantha Johnson in the 300 meter run (44.51), Kaitlyn Love in the mile (5:12.72) and Julia Williams in the 3,000 meter run (11:13.97).

The women's 60 meter dash featured Butler's trio of Nicole Hudec, Kelly Davidson and Bria Booker all crossing the finish line in 8:18.

Butler also won the women's 4 X 400 meter relay with a team of Davidson, Fisher, Johnson and Hudec.  The foursome finished in 4:14.96.  The Butler men's team of Berry, Matthew Schumacker, Zygmunt and Nick Devor won the men's 4 X 400 relay in 3:28.68.

The Bulldogs will be back in action at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington on Friday, Dec. 7.
