Bulldogs Post Individual Wins At IPFW
FORT WAYNE, IND. -- Senior Lauren McKillop swept a pair of events and five teammates posted individual wins to highlight the performance of Butler's track and field squad at the IPFW Quadrangular on Saturday (Jan. 26). The meet in Fort Wayne was one of two competitions for the Bulldogs during the weekend.
McKillop won the women's mile run in 5:03.90, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of Brittini Hutton of Oakland. The Butler senior then captured the women's 3,000 meter run in 10:23.00.
Butler's women also picked up a win from freshman Julia Williams in the women's 5,000 meter run. Williams crossed the finish line in 18:15.79, well ahead of runner-up Cassandra Peterson of Oakland (18:41.18).
Sophomore Nicole Hudec placed runner-up in both the women's 60 meter dash and the women's long jump, and she finished sixth in the women's 200. She narrowly missed her own school-record with a time of 7.93 in the 60 meter dash, and she later tied her school mark of 7.89 in a non-scoring running of the 60.
In the men's competition, the Bulldogs swept the top three spots in the mile run. Sophomore Tom Curr won the event in 4:12.25, while junior Tom Anderson finished runner-up in 4:16.55. Freshman Luke Zygmunt came in third in 4:16.77.
Junior Alex Berry won the men's 400 in 50.22, while sophomore Kellen Strobel captured the 800 in 1:59.10. Senior Kevin Oblinger won the men's 3,000 meter run in 8:38.92.
The Bulldogs began the weekend at the Indiana Relays, with athletes entered in several elite races. Senior Kirsty Legg placed eighth in the women's mile invitational in 4:54.05, while teammate Mara Olson came in 11th in 4:59.40.
Junior Craig Jordan placed 15th in the men's mile invitational in 4:11.75.
Butler also had a pair of athletes competing unattached at the Indiana-hosted meet. Freshman Olivia Pratt came in seventh in the women's 3,000 meter invitational in 9:48.08, while freshman Erik Peterson placed 13th in the men's 3,000 meter invitational in 8:33.68.
