Mara Olson Earns Atlantic 10 Conference Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler sophomore Mara Olson turned in a top individual performance at an elite indoor competition, and her effort earned her Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week honors.  She was one of four athletes recognized by the A-10 for performances during the week of Feb. 4-10.

Olson raced to a first place finish in the women's 3,000 meter run at the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington.  She covered the distance in a time of 9:29.05 to pace a field of 59 runners.  The second-year runner becomes Butler's first athlete to earn the A-10 weekly track and field honor.

Also recognized by the conference were Khyran Shank, Chris Tate and Morgan Richards, all of Charlotte.  Shank, who placed first in the 60 meter dash and second in the 200 meter dash at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational, was named A-10 Men's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week.  Tate, who finished sixth in the 400 at the Tiger Paw Invitational, earned A-10 Men's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week, while Richards, who won the women's 3,000 in 10:13.12 at Clemson, was tabbed A-10 Women's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week.

Butler will compete in its first Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship this weekend in Kingston, R.I.  The two-day meet will begin on Saturday, Feb. 16, and conclude on Sunday, Feb. 17.
