Butler Track Heads To Mt. Sac Relays
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler's track and field teams will have a
busy weekend with squad members competing at meets in California
and Indiana. The Bulldogs will have a handful of athletes
entered in the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., with the bulk of
the squad headed to Bloomington to compete in the Polytan
Butler head coach Matt Roe will take seven middle distance/distance runners to California for one of the nation's top outdoor competitions. Representing Butler at the California meet will be seniors Katie Clark and Lauren McKillop, juniors Tom Anderson and Ross Clarke, sophomore Tom Curr and freshmen Erik Peterson and Olivia Pratt.
"As a split group, we have had several national level performances at Stanford and Arizona State to open our outdoor season," said Butler head coach Matt Roe. "For the first time this season, both groups will join forces at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays. Everyone is fit and ready to compete at an elite level in Southern California."
Curr and Clarke each competed in the 1500 at the Mt. Sac Relays a year ago. Curr posted a time of 3:45.98 and placed fifth in his section and eighth overall last year, while Clarke finished in 3:50.13 and came in sixth in his section. Curr, who is ranked sixth in the NCAA Division I in the 1500, will be competing in the Invitational Mile this year, while Clarke, who is ranked 11th, will be looking to improve his position in the 1500.
Butler's other five runners in California will be entered in the 5,000 meter run. Clark, who is ranked 11th nationally in the 10,000, and Anderson, who is ranked 35th in the 10,000, each will be running the outdoor 5,000 for the first time this season. McKillop is currently ranked 71st in the 5,000, while Peterson and Pratt will be trying to climb into the national rankings.
All seven Butler athletes at the Mt. Sac Relays will be in action on Friday, April 19, at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
The remainder of Butler's squad, led by Kodi Mullins and Kevin Oblinger in the steeplechase and Luke Zygmunt in the 800, will be competing at Indiana University in the Polytan Invitational on Saturday, April 20. The meet at Indiana's Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex will start at 4:30 p.m.
