Butler To Host Stan Lyons Invitational
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler will close out its regular season outdoor track and field schedule and make its final home appearance at the Stan Lyons Invitational on Saturday, May 3. The eight-team competition will be held at the Davey Track & Field Complex, located behind Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The one-day meet will start at 3 p.m. (ET) with the women's javelin. The first running event, the women's 4 X 100 relay, is scheduled for 4 p.m. In addition to the Bulldogs, athletes representing Marquette, Indiana State, IUPUI, Xavier, Defiance, Tennessee Wesleyan and Spaulding are scheduled to compete.
The Stan Lyons Invitational will be the final home meet for the seniors on Butler's 2013-14 men's and women's teams. The eight seniors competing for the final time at the Davey Track & Field Complex are Kirsty Legg, Shelbi Burnett, Maddie Cassidy, Rob Branflick, Billy Klimczak, Andrew Wallace, Matt Schumacker and Dominique Stephens.
Legg will join teammate Mara Olson in the women's 1,500 meter run, and the pair should make the race one of the feature events of the meet. Legg owns the Butler school record (4:17.78) in the event, while Olson earned All-America recognition in the 3,000 meter run during the indoor season. The women's 1,500 is scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
The meet also will feature a strong field in the men's 5,000 meter run with 35 competitors entered, including Butler's duo of Tom Anderson and James Martin. That race is slated to start at 5:38 p.m.
The Bulldogs will begin postseason competition at the BIG EAST Championship on May 9. The NCAA East Regional Meet will start on May 29.
