Butler Adds Nine Cross Country/Track Recruits

Butler cross country/track coach Matt Roe has added nine recruits to his 2009-10 men’s and women’s rosters and the incoming class figures to have an immediate impact on the Bulldogs’ successful distance program. Stephen Lisgo Places Fifth At European Championships
Butler track and field All-American Stephen Lisgo added to an already impressive resume by placing fifth in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania, on Sunday, July 19. The Butler junior was competing as a member of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team.

Butler Leads The Nation In Track & Field Academics
Butler ranked among the top five teams for both men and women and wound up as the top combined program among schools honored by the U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as 2009 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams. A total of 67 men’s teams and 130 women’s programs were recognized by the coaches’ association.

Butler’s Stephen Lisgo To Compete In European U23 Championships
Stephen Lisgo, who earned All-America honors as a junior on the Butler track and field squad this past spring, has been selected to the 52-member Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the European Athletics Under-23 Championships. The international competition will take place July 16-19 in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Stephen Lisgo Named Horizon League Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year
Butler junior Stephen Lisgo, who turned in a record-setting performance during the spring track season, has been selected as the 2009 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year. He was chosen for the league’s top honor by a vote of Horizon League track and field coaches.

Kent Wories, Andy Baker Named Academic All-America
Butler track and cross country athletes Kent Wories and Andy Baker have been named to the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team, chosen by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The two distance runners were named to the second team of the University Division Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country academic honor squad.

Stephen Lisgo Earns All-America Honors At NCAA Track Championship
Junior Stephen Lisgo was the last Butler runner to compete at the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Fayetteville, Ark. And when he completed his race, he walked off the University of Arkansas track with a Butler record and the status of All-American!

Stephen Lisgo Advances To NCAA Steeplechase Finals
Butler’s Stephen Lisgo waited out a long rain delay and then made sure his stay in Fayetteville, Ark., would last a little longer with a solid performance in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase at the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Butler junior was one of 14 athletes who advanced to the steeplechase finals on Friday, June 12.

Andy Baker, Kent Wories Named Academic All-District
Butler distance runners Andy Baker and Kent Wories have been named to the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine District V All-Academic Track/Cross Country Team, selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Each earned first team recognition on the honor squad, chosen from Division I athletes at schools in Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario and Manitoba.
