Tommy Davies put on a strong performance in his 2007-08 debut and Isabelle Stoate ran the second fastest indoor mile of her career to highlight the showing of a contingent of Butler track and field athletes at the Notre Dame Opener on Friday, Jan. 18. The non-scoring indoor track meet was held at the Loftus Sport Center in Notre Dame, Ind.
Davies placed third in the men's mile run with a time of 4:17.24. It was the first 2007-08 track race for the All-Horizon League cross country runner. Stoate wound up fifth in the women's mile run with a time of 5:04.40.
The Bulldogs also had several strong performances in the 3,000 meter events. Freshman Matt Lawder, running the 3,000 for the first time, placed sixth in the men's race with a time of 8:44.19. That time equaled a 13-second personal best over his high school 3,200 best of 9:31.
Senior Kent Wories posted a lifetime best with a time of 8:51.87 in the 3,000, good for 9th place, and freshman Madison Roeder finished 13th with a time of 9:04.85, just five seconds off his personal best.
Senior Sarah Kemple ran the second fastest 3,000 meter race of her career with a time of 10:28.86, good for seventh place.
Senior Kristi Hertzler picked up a sixth place finish in the women's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.41, and she finished 18th in the women's 200 meter run in 27.29. Aubrey Smith placed 18th in the women's 1,000 meter run in 3:16.69.
