Isabelle Stoate, Stephen Murphy Post Wins At Notre Dame Opener

Sophomore Isabelle Stoate and junior Stephen Murphy picked up individual wins to highlight the performance of Butler's men's and women's track and field teams at the Notre Dame Opener held at the Loftus Sports Complex on the University of Notre Dame campus on Friday, Jan. 20. It was Butler's first 2006 indoor track competition.
Stoate, running her first race of the season, captured the women's 3,000 meter run at the non-scoring meet. She covered the distance in 10:18.81.
Murphy, also competing for the first time, won the men's 3,000 meter run. He paced the field in 8:35.35. Butler sophomore Kent Wories came in sixth in the same race in 8:53.30.
Butler grabbed two of the top five spots in the women's mile run. Sophomore Jenni Pereira came in third in 4:55.27, while sophomore Genni Gardner placed fifth in 5:01.44. The Bulldogs also picked up a "Top 6" finish from sophomore Kristi Hertzler, who tied for sixth place in the women's 60 meter hurdles (9.61).
Senior Scott Overall raced to a fourth place finish in the men's 800 meter run in 1:53.01, while freshman Tyler Kos placed second in the men's triple jump (37-00.50).
