Frazer, Kemple Turn In Top Performances At Notre Dame Invitational

Senior John Frazer and freshman Sarah Kemple turned in a pair of top performances to lead Butler's track and field squad at the Notre Dame Invitational indoor track meet on Saturday, Jan. 29. The Bulldogs, competing for just the second time during the indoor season, entered a partial squad in the invitational meet.

Frazer finished second in the men's 3,000 meter run with a lifetime best effort of 8:11.13. It was the fastest indoor 3,000 meter time for a Butler runner in two years. Kurt Benninger of Notre Dame won the 3,000 with a time of 7:59.39, the second-fastest time recorded in the NCAA this season!

Kemple placed fourth in the women's 3,000 meter run with a personal best time of 10:07.46. It was the second-fastest time ever run by a Butler freshman, trailing on the 9:58.0 recorded by Mary Reeves!

Butler also picked up a third place finish in the women's 500 meter run from Brooke Carr, who posted a time of 1:18.58, and a third place finish from Kristi Hertzler with a time of 9:45 in the women's 60 meter hurdles. Hertzler also finished fifth in both the 500 meter run (1:24.04) and in the women's long jump (15-04.75). Chris Smith placed fourth in the men's 500 meter run in 1:06.97.

Butler will continue the indoor season at both the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 4-5), and the DePauw Tiger Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 5).
