Senior Scott Overall Posts The Fifth-Fastest 3,000 Meter Time In The Nation

Feb. 6, 2006

Senior Scott Overall placed third in the men's 3,000 meter run at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, to highlight a weekend of track action that saw two Butler indoor records fall and a third tied. The Bulldogs competed both at Notre Dame and the Tiger Invitational, hosted by DePauw.

Overall, running in what was regarded as the most powerful field in the indoor season to this point, ran the fifth-fastest 3,000 meter time in the nation with a school-record 7:56.58 effort. His time broke the previous Butler mark of 7:59.15 set by Julius Mwangi in 1998. Overall finished behind Mike Woods of Michigan (7:52.27) and All-American Kurt Benninger (7:52.28), while beating NCAA indoor 5,000 meter champ Chris Solinsky of Wisconsin.

Woods and Benninger both earned automatic qualification for the NCAA indoor championship, while Overall was a provisional qualifier.

Butler also saw a school record fall in the women's 5,000 meter run at the Meyo Invitational, when junior Jenni Pereira covered the distance in 16:45.17 to place ninth. That broke the Butler mark of 17:03.18, set by Sarah Kemple last year.

Sophomore Genni Gardner came in 11th in the women's 5,000 meter run at Notre Dame with a time of 17:07.84, while senior Kim Stuckey finished 19th in 17:47.44.

In the men's 5,000 meter run, junior Andy Rayner came in tenth in 14:19.67, while junior Alex Hains was 12th in 14:27.27. Junior Andrew Toward finished 22nd in 14:55.51.

Sophomore Kristi Hertzler turned in Butler's top performance at the Tiger Invitational with a pair of runner-up finishes, including a school record in the long jump. She placed second in women's long jump with a leap of 16-10.75, matching the school mark set by Lauren Karch in 2000. Hertzler also finished runner-up in the women's 55 meter hurdles in 8.72.

Sophomore Johanna Marvin notched a fifth place finish in the women's triple jump with a leap of 32-11.75, and she placed eighth in the women's long jump with a 16-02.25 effort. Sophomore Alison Hohn placed eighth in the women's high jump with a leap of 4-09.75.

Sophomore Matt Kral had the best finish for Butler's men with a fifth place effort in the pole vault with a leap of 13-00.25. Junior Chad Ware came in sixth in the men's 5,000 meter run in 15:45.54.
