Scott Overall Shines At Horizon League Championship

Senior Scott Overall posted two first place finishes and captured the Most Outstanding Performer For Running Events award to highlight the action for Butler's men's and women's track teams at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26. Butler's men placed fifth of six teams, while the Butler women were sixth of seven squads.
Overall won the men's 1,000 meter run in a meet record time of 2:24.79. He finished nearly three seconds ahead of runner-up RD Goodright of Youngstown State, while topping the former league record of 2:25.95 set by Jonathan Berning of Loyola in 2003. Overall also anchored Butler's winning distance medley relay team, which posted a winning time of 10:04.58.
The Bulldogs also picked up first place finishes in the men's competition from junior Andy Rayner and junior Alex Hains. Rayner finished first in the mile run in 4:15.70, while Hains captured the 3,000 meter run in 8:20.62. The duo also joined Overall on Butler's winning distance medley relay team.
The final first place award for Butler's men went to senior Mitch Briggs, who was a member of the distance medley relay team.
The Bulldogs also picked up points from junior Andrew Toward (3rd, 3,000 meter, 8:28.87), sophomore Matt Kral (4th, pole vault, 12-08), sophomore Kent Wories (5th, mile, 4:21.84) and the 4 X 400 relay team (6th, 3:50.48).
Butler notched a pair of first place finishes in the women's competition. Junior Kate Buchan captured the 1,000 meter run in 2:54.91, missing the meet record by just 0:00.62. And senior Katie Stuckey won the 3,000 meter run in 9:51.45, just a second off the meet record.
Sophomore Genni Gardner posted a second place finish in the mile run in 5:01.90. Butler also picked up a fifth place finish from sophomore Calli Grimes (5:28.42) and a sixth place finish from freshman Rachel Hojnacki (5:33.83) in the mile run.
Butler's remaining points came from sophomore Caitlin Helgesen (6th, 1,000, 3:06.17), freshman Jennifer Macke (5th, high jump, 4-11.75; 6th pentathlon, 3003), the distance medley relay (2nd, 12:13) and the 4 X 400 relay (6th, 4:24). Sophomore Kristi Hertzler competed on both Butler relay teams. She teamed with juniors Ava Hutchinson and Jenni Pereira and freshman Ashley Salt on the distance medley relay team, and she joined Helgesen, sophomore Aubrey Smith and Hojnacki on the 4 X 400 relay squad.
UW-Milwaukee won both the men's and women's team championships.
