Andrew Sherman Breaks Butler's 800 Meter Record

Junior Andrew Sherman broke Butler's 800 meter run record and junior Victoria Mitchell captured a pair of individual titles to highlight the performance of Butler's track and field squad at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday, April 10. Butler's men finished sixth in the 10-team competition, while Butler's women wound up eighth.
Sherman won the 800 meter run in 1:50.88. His time broke the previous Butler mark of 1:51.01, set by Rob Krar in 2000.
Butler also picked up a first place finish in the 1500 meter run. Junior Thomas Frazer paced the field in 3:53.54, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of runner-up Brad Neumann of Cincinnati. Butler's Bart Phariss came in seventh in the 1500 in 4:03.67.
The Bulldogs' remaining points in the men's competition were scored by sophomore Brandon Cook. The Butler sprinter placed fifth in the 100 meter dash (11.09) and fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.06).
Mitchell won both the 800 meter run and the 1500 meter run in the women's competition. She captured the 800 title with a time of 2:11.47 and then came right back to win the 1500 in 4:36.80. Butler's Mary Reeves (4:45.33) placed fourth in the 1500, while Brooke Carr (4:47.16) came in seventh.
