Kara Henry, Genni Gardner Post Wins At Miami Invitational

Senior Kara Henry and junior Genni Gardner each posted individual wins to highlight the performance of Butler's men's and women's track and field teams at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday (April 14). Butler placed seventh of 14 teams in the women's competition and ninth of 11 squads in the men's action.
Henry won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:06.53. She finished ten seconds ahead of runner-up Valerie Hardesty of IPFW. Gardner captured the women's 1500 meter run in 4:41.94.
Butler also picked up points on the women's side from junior Kristi Hertzler, who placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles, and freshman Marbeth Shiell, who was fifth in the 1500.
All of Butler's points on the men's side came in the 1500 meter run, where the Bulldogs captured four of the top eight places. Senior Andrew Toward placed third in the event in 3:54.31, while senior Vinny Ambrico came in fourth in 3:54.60. Freshman Justin Roeder was fifth in 3:58.15 and senior Chris Smith was eighth in 4:00.05.
