Stephen Lisgo captured a victory and Kris Gauson landed a school record to lead Butler's track contingent in a strong showing at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, Ore. The two juniors turned in the highlight performances of a weekend that saw the Bulldogs competing both in Oregon and in Indianapolis.
Lisgo was chasing the Butler steeplechase record of 8:42.5, set by Mark Tucker in 2002. He came up short of the school mark when his knee hit one of the hurdles a third of the way through the race, but he held on to win the event with a time of 8:53.40.
Gauson, was successful in his record bid. He placed runner-up to Olympian Andrew Wheating in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:48.66. That mark topped the Butler record of 1:50.32, set by Andrew Sherman in 2004.
Butler also had three runners turn in a solid effort in the men's 5,000 meter race. Junior Joe MacDonald placed sixth in a strong field with a time of 14:01.73, while junior Justin Roeder came in 14th in 14:31.45. Junior Tom Boardman was 18th in the event in 14:52.57.
The rest of Butler's squad remained in Indianapolis to compete at the Stan Lyons Invitational. Sophomore Madison Roeder, who placed runner-up in the men's 5,000 meter race, had the team's top individual finish. He crossed the finish line in 14:44.22. Freshman Lauren Haberkorn placed fifth in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:58.08) and junior Rob Mullett finished seventh in the men's 1,500 (3:55.46).
