Complete Results

After limited success in Oregon last weekend, Scott Overall returned to the West Coast to once again compete against some of the nation's best athletes at Stanford University.

The result was a clocking of 13:38 over 5000m (that's about 4:23 per mile). His time makes him the unofficial 5th fastest runner of the distance in the NCAA this year.

His school record effort was about a second back from winner Alejandro Suarez, a non-collegian from Mexico.

Later at the same meet, junior Ava Hutchinson ran a solid 4:28.62 over 1500m. Her time was less than a second off of the regional qualifying standard of 4:27.80. Hutchinson, who owns the school record in the event, represented Butler for it at nationals last year.

Back at home, other Butler men and women saw success at the Stan Lyons Invitational.

Lady distance runners led the way. Kate Buchan and Caitlin Helgesesn went 1 and 5 in the 800m with times of 2:12 and 2:25.

The 3000m turned out in similar fashion, with biology major Katie Stuckey winning in 10:15, and sophomore Sarah Kemple placing 4th in 10:38.

Freshman Ashley Salt finished an impressive 2nd in the 1500m. Her time of 4:57 was 2 seconds ahead of the 3rd place finisher.

On the men's side, the distance runners also paced the team with a series of second place finishes.

Andrew Toward ran 3:56 to earn runner up in the 1500m, Matt Dunham was only defeated by one competitor with his 10:02 3000m steeplechase effort, and Kent Wories got his 2nd with a personal best 15:16 in the 5000m.

As usual, the duo of Nate Schaefer and Tyler Kos packed a 1-2 punch, by finishing 4th and 5th in the 110m hurdles just one hundredth of a second apart at 16:50 and 16:69.

The Bulldogs will host Butler Twilight downtown this weekend, their 4th home meet of the season.
