Junior Becky Lyne broke Butler's 800 meter record for the second time this spring while placing runner-up in an elite field of runners at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Stanford University on Friday, May 2. The meet was Lyne's final tune-up prior to the Horizon League Track and Field Championship in Indianapolis, May 8-9.

Lyne posted a time of 2:03.54 at Stanford, breaking her own school mark of 2:03.84 set two weeks ago at the Mt. Sac Relays in California. She was the only NCAA runner to place among the "Top Five" individuals in the 800 at the Cardinal Invitational, and her time is the fastest 800 meter time recorded by an NCAA runner this spring. Chantee Earl of the Nike Farm Team won the event at Stanford in 2:03.05.

Also competing at Stanford for the Bulldogs was Lois Bowles, who placed ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:02.12), and Lissa Vogley, who was 18th in the 5,000 meter run (17:38.84). In the men's competition, Butler's Brad Bennett (14:46.39), Brian Dunn (14:56.84) and Lennon Wicks (14:58.63) all participated in the 5,000 meter run.
