Kara Henry Qualifies For NCAA Regional

Sophomore Kara Henry became the second member of the Butler women's track team to qualify for the NCAA regionals in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a strong performance at the Butler Twilight Meet, Saturday, May 7. She'll join teammate Victoria Mitchell in the event at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship, which will be hosted by Indiana University on May 27-28.

Henry won the steeplechase at the Butler Twilight Meet, held at the Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium in Indianapolis. Her winning time of 10:51.55 topped the regional qualifying standard for the event.

Butler also picked up solid performances from sophomore Chris Smith and freshman Genni Gardner. Smith won the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 3:53.45, and he placed second in the 800 meter run in 1:52.16. Gardner won the women's 3,000 meter run in 9:53.73.

Senior Rob Hartman finished runner-up in the men's javelin with a throw of 159-06. Junior Bill Peterman came in third in the men's 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:54.08, while sophomore Maggie Mathieson placed third in the women's 5,000 meter run in 17:45.71.
