Kara Henry Win Steeplechase At Horizon League Meet

Senior Kara Henry captured an individual title in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase to highlight the performance of Butler's track and field team on the first day of the 2007 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championship, being held at the Michael A. Carroll Track Stadium in Indianapolis. The league meet will conclude with a full schedule of events on Friday, May 11.

Henry posted a winning time of 11:01.74 in the steeplechase, finishing 50 seconds ahead of runner-up Lisa Petty of UIC. The Butler senior took the lead on the first lap of the race and stretched her margin throughout the remainder of the competition.

Butler also picked up a pair of runner-up finishes on the first day of competition. Senior Chad Ware came in second in the men's 10,000 meter run, posting a time of 32:44.98. And freshman Brett Millard finished second in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:45.80.

The Bulldogs also picked up points in the men's pole vault, where junior Matt Kral placed fourth with a vault of 12-05.50. Finals were contested in two men's and women's running events and four men's and women's field events on the opening day.
