Andrew Sherman, Scott Overall Advance In Mideast Regional

May 27, 2005

Senior Andrew Sherman and junior Scott Overall both survived their first test at the NCAA Track and Field Mideast Regional and both advanced to the finals of the 1500 meter run at the two-day meet, hosted by Indiana University. The duo will be among several Butler runners competing for a spot in the NCAA National Track and Field Championship when the Mideast Regional concludes on Saturday, May 28.

Sherman recorded a time of 3:46.54, while Overall came in with a 3:48.84. The two will be joined by ten other runners in the 1500 finals on Saturday. Butler had two other runners competing in the 1500 meter qualifying heats at the Mideast Regional. Nick Goodliffe finished with a time of 3:53.31, while Chris Smith posted a time of 3:53.66.

The men's 5,000 meter run, which was scheduled as a final on Friday, was postponed until Saturday because of inclement weather. Butler seniors John and Thomas Frazer will compete in that race on Saturday morning. Several other Butler runners will be in action on Saturday, including distance ace Victoria Mitchell. The Butler senior will be among the favorites in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase.
