Victoria Mitchell Places Runner-Up In Steeplechase At Mideast Regional

Senior Victoria Mitchell placed runner-up in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase and sophomore Ava Hutchinson finished fourth in the women's 1500 meter run to highlight the performance of Butler's track and field team at the NCAA Track and Field Mideast Regional, which concluded at Indiana University on Saturday, May 28. The two Butler runners will advance to the NCAA National Track and Field Championship in Sacramento, Calif., June 8-11.
Mitchell, who earned All-America honors at last year's NCAA Track and Field Championship, turned in Butler's top performance at the Mideast Regional with a second place finish in the steeplechase. She crossed the finish line in 10:07.63, just 0:00.34 behind race champ Cassie Hunt of Illinois! Butler sophomore Kara Henry placed runner-up in the first section of the steeplechase with a time of 10:41.28.
Hutchinson earned her first trip to the NCAA national meet. She was the fourth runner across the finish line in the 1500, posting a time of 4:23.02.
In the men's competition, Butler had three runners post "Top 10" individual finishes. Sophomore Scott Overall came in seventh in the men's 1500 meter run in 3:47.60, while senior Andrew Sherman came in tenth in 3:48.32. Senior Thomas Frazer finished ninth in the men's 5,000 meter run in 14:18.93, while his brother, John, wound up 17th in 14:30.98.
