Baker, Gardner Pace Bulldogs At NCAA Mideast Regional

Junior Andy Baker placed 11th in the men's 5,000 meter run and senior Genni Gardner came in 12th in the women's 5,000 meter event at the 2008 NCAA Division I Outdoor Mideast Regional on Friday (May 30). The two Butler runners were among six Bulldogs competing in three events at the NCAA meet hosted by the University of Arkansas at John McDonnell Field.

Baker had Butler's top finish at the regional meet, which featured the top Division I competitors in the Mideast. He crossed the finish line in 14:30.82, missing a "Top 10" finish by just under seven-tenths of a second. Jacob Korir of Eastern Kentucky won the event in 14:03.43.

Junior Tommy Davies also ran in the men's 5,000, and he placed 16th in 14:42.46. Senior Darren Gauson came in 18th in the men's 1,500 meter run in 3:54.85.

Gardner paced three Butler runners in the women's 5,000. She posted a time of 17:13.34 in the race, won by Angela Bizzarri of Illinois in 16:24.38. Junior Rachel Gibbs came in 15th in 17:30.17, while senior Claire Holme didn't finish the race.
