Hutchinson Breaks School Record At NCAA Championship
June 10, 2005
Sophomore Ava Hutchinson broke a school record and senior Scott Overall posted the second-fastest time in school history while competing in the prelims of the men's and women's 1500 meter run at the 2005 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday, June 9. But despite their strong performances, the two Butler runners failed to advance to Saturday's finals.
Hutchinson placed eighth in the first heat of the women's 1500 meter run in 4:20.27. That effort topped the Butler school record of 4:23.77 that she set earlier this spring at the Cardinal Invitational in California. Hutchinson missed reaching the finals of the women's 1500 meter run by less than two seconds.
Overall finished ninth in the second heat of the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 3:43.55. He narrowly missed the school mark of 3:42.76, set by teammate Nick Goodliffe this spring. Overall's time was the ninth best recorded on Thursday, but it left him one place shy of advancing to the finals. The top four runners from each heat, plus the next best four times qualified for Saturday's finals in the 1500 meter run.
